my story

well as you probably already know my name is courtney. my birthday is the day right after halloween. i am a highschool student attending a small school located down south, i plan on being a physical therapist. i have been web designing for about 2 years now, and i am in love with it. i have a touch of ocd. i'm quite crazy and loud once i get to know you, but in the beginning im kinda shy and quiet. i'm a night owl not a morning bird, at night is when i do my best work. i sleep about 5 hours everyday, and i still manage to stay nice. i have been on the back of a horse since I was 2 years old, from my mom just leading me around after my aunts lesson. i started taking lessons at the age of 5, but stoped riding when I was about 9 years old due to barn issues, it took me 4 1/2 years to get back in the saddle. after contacting a barn in the area we got in touch with an old friend who is now my current trainer. in the summer of 06 things happened and i got discouraged. and stoped riding for a few months. i got back in the saddle again in Jan. of 07, riding a lesson horse named solo. after riding him for a while my trainer moved me to ricco, and this is where it all began.

february 8th 07 my life changed forever. the day started out rough and i just wasnt happy. i had riding that day and was looking forward to riding solo, when i got there the riding list changed, because a lesson horse went lame so they were short on a horse. i was moved to a chestnut gelding name ricco. i didn't know anything about this horse nor did i even know he was at our barn. as i walked out to the pasture i spotted him, he was looking straight at me with these eyes i could melt in. as i was putting his halter on there was just this connection that i cannot even began to describe. all my thoughts and worries just went away, and i just didn't have a care in the world when i was on him.

ricco and i were in two shows in the time we had together, our first show was rough. we were both really nervous but we manged to snag 4th and 5th in our jumping classes and 6th in our flat class. in our second show we did amazing taking home two 2nds in our jumping class and 4th in our flat class out of seven riders.

in april of 2007 i started to lease ricco. after months of being with each other our bond was unbreakable. on september 2nd 2007, ricco was taken from my life, his owners had decided they didn't want him to be ridden anymore by anyone. my life was crushed, my heart was broken and i cried for weeks. after riding with ricco for over 8 months he was just taken away from me with no warning at all.

after somehow recovering from the heartache i started to ride warrior fortune, aka fortune. fortune is a 15.2 hand high bay appendix quarter horse gelding, who was born on april 14th making him 9 years old. he was raced when he was younger, but just didn't cut it. he was then sold to my current trainer, where she then trained him and was being sold. after some conflicts happened he wasn't offered for sale anymore. fortune is now a permanent school horse at wingsong stables.

fortune and i have been in two shows. in our first show we took two 5ths for our jumping class and 4th in our flat class out of seven riders. in our second show together we pined two 3rds in jumping and 7th in our flat out of seven riders due to a wrong lead and the judge ate at that. after our last show i have decided that showing just isn't each others thing, so as of right now i am on showing hiatus.
